sending shouts from agentless (remote host)

Post by sharonc » 02 Oct 2007 5:59

Hi,
I was wondering if anyone has experienced the following issue.
I have a batch job, which runs on a remote host. The job runs fine, however, when it comes to sending a shout (to an e-mail) to notify the status of the job, that part fails.
I run it on a normal agent, and the shout works ok.
All communications between remote host and controlm server are all OK.

Thanks.

The shout is sent to an agent program or server program?

Thwe shout to a ECS of a normal message works?

Yes, it works on a normal agent.
I set up a shout entry in controlm server which points to a physical email address.
Shout to ECS works. It doesn't work when it is an email address.
The Shout Destination Type is 'M' for Mail.
Address Type is 'S' Server
A Logical Name, then a Physical email address.

You can try to send an e-mail with the do-mail option.
You must configure on the server the SMTP settings, for e-mails is always better.

I think that can be a antispam or avirus setting that block the e-mail sent from the remote agent.
Or is a remote host limit/bug because if you set the shout to a Server logical name, the launch is done by the server (but the begin of the process starts from agent).

Is interesting because can be that the shouts to a server program have problems on remote hosts.

I've tried DO MAIL function as well... it doesn't work on the remote host.
Yes it is very interesting indeed...
I thought I'd just ask, if anyone has come across this issue.
Anyway, I've logged a case with BMC to get their assistance.

I did my own testing, and found that the shout will work on the remote host, if you turn off the parameter ADD_SYSOUT_TO_EMAIL A in the config.dat file on the controlm server.
So, I have provided feedback to bmc development to see if they can fix this issue.
