Feedback about migration agents

Post by Walty » 15 Dec 2008 9:57

Hi all,

I am looking for other users opinions about the best way to migrate Unix agents v6.1.x to 6.3.x when the number of agents is important.

1) Execute upgrading procédure ?
2) Uninstall old agent and install new agent ?

What are other users experiences?

Thank you very much for your input.
Best regards
Walty

Hi Walty

I will suggest to migrate regarding on, what will be impacts on your treatments submitted on that agent.

But, between upgrade or new installation, I will advise to uninstall and re-install the new version?

In fact, in case of issues after migration, it will be difficult to know if you have an agent problem with the new version (including fixpack), or if you use bad binaries from the previous version.

And, to finish, in case of return to the last version, you already have installation procedure, to install the last version.
Return after an upgrade will be not safe.

Walty,

I have done also using the new feature: "agent less".
Reassuming I have:
- migrate server components
- down agent services
- defined agent less
- scheduling with agent less
- migrate some agents and when done removing agent less definition

It worked very well on many unix/linux agents.
So consider also this solution.
(some of theses agents are agent less now).

hy,
or
install a new 6.3 discovered agent , desintall old 6.1 with keeping sysout and necessary config parameters.
in all case, your agent must be in 6.1.03 min to be recognized in 6.3 no?
