BMC has announced this week the release of version 7 of Control-M. For the time and in accordance with normal delivery schedules version, only the Control-M/Enterprise Manager is available. What was he in this new version?

Installation - Architecture

Firstly at the facility level, BMC provided a new installation engine based on Java (without the need for a JRE preinstalled). The customer database is no longer necessary for the Reporting Facility, the logs are standardized and simplified documentation. As Sybase had disappeared from databases provided with the software version 6.4, it is the turn of Oracle no longer be provided. Only rest as database engine supplied with Control-M Post-GRE SQL. Sybase, Oracle and MS-SQL still supported for the solution.

Workload Automation

Among the major innovations of this version 7, is the manager of automation of machine resources to optimize the profitability of a data center. This is managed by defining policies for use of resources, modeled by the reach of constraints (time, time, resources or quantitative terms). These rules are taken into account by Batch Impact Manager and Control-M/Forecast and benefits reporting (Reporting Facility) partners.

Archiving and Change Management

The management of archiving is greatly improved allowing manipulation of grouped objects to be restored by example and bringing together in one view changed jobs and destroyed.

Through the integration of a Control-M in ITSM approach, after the 3 modules are Batch Impact Manager, and Batch Control-M/Forecast Discovery and the ability to interface directly with a Control-M management tool incidents like Remedy. Version 7 offers another dimension, turning to management changes. Indeed, it is now possible to impose the annotation actions performed on Control-M. It is now possible to know why a job has been mounted to the plan last Thursday at 17h. Or why did they do an upload of the chain BILLING last week.

GUI

The user interfaces with this new version are the appearance of features, such as: The ability to fully display the field very long, a tab "Step" simplified editor SYSOUT to do research, save locally or print, and the automatic link to the file name extension for the field "documentation." The most important feature of the user interface is undoubtedly the feature "Bypass" to right-click, allowing one or more jobs to ignore the constraints (time, resource requirements, of Workload), but Post also shares Process. Or more simply behave like a dummy.

SMART Tables

Note also the appearance of replacing the SMART Table Scheduling Group and can contain up to 10 levels of subtables. The latter, which have properties Scheduling Group inherit settings from their parents as particularly TAGS renamed themselves "Rules Based Calendar.

Administration

Shout the destination table, the configuration of Control-M/Server but also WebLaunch and SSL settings are available in the Configuration Manager graphical GUI. The interfacing with Active Directory or LDAP is simplified by the use of groups.

And finally, the icing on the cake, waited several years by all the non-root Control-M/Agent.
