Run AFT without enabling ftp service on agents

Post by Aneesh » 21 Mar 2014 12:17

I'm using control M version 7.0. As per the client requirement we need to set up AFT jobs on agents without enabling ftp serices on agents(port 21). Is it possible?

Atleast one of the two agent hosts must have FTP or sftp server services running on them.

The AFT module is a FTP client.
So to transfer a file from a server to another one you need:
- on one server the AFT module
- on the other a FTP server (and no agent installed).

For unix machines the server ftp (SSH) is always installed, for windows machines a server ftp is needed. In this case only one server ftp is enabled with "Virtual directories" that point to the destinations server and folders (and different users). Is a flexible and powerfull manner to centralize all internal file transfers.

Now there is in controlm Managed File Transfer (MFT) that do all trasfers without any need to external ftp: all is done by controlm, is very powerfull, easy and fast (see demo video on bmc site).

Regards
