Passing auto edit variables thru Perl

I need examples of the basics to set a variable with a perl script then run/force a Control-M set up using the values passed. I have no experience with this type of process but have access to a resource with Perl knowledge. I just don't know what to tell them to do with the results so I can launch a job using the results to determine which process to launch and with what input parameters.
