How to check database availability after shutdown services

Hi,

Please help me with this.
as per title.i run a job that shutdown services on particular database for backup purpose(on control-m/em).
the question is, how can i check the database is really down ?
what command can i use to list the status for the current database?
i try to create a job that can do the trick.

the command depends from database and os.
The best check is to log on database, but you must have a user on database.
If you don't have a user you could check if database process is up.
If you define your environment (DB/OS) I could send you a script that returns database status.
