Enterprise Manager 7.0... quick question.

Post by JoPoCME » 16 Sep 2010 3:55

Is it at all backwards compatible with version 6.4 clients or will I have to have all clients upgraded to 7.0 before I've migrated.

JoPoCME

According to the annoucements, the chances for GUI 6.4 to be compatible with a server 700, which is likely to display embedded Scheduling Groups, while 640 cannot, are close to 0.

Still, you don not need to upgrade your existing 6.4 : since version 6.2, you are allowed to install multiple instances of EM clients on the same Windows machine.
In 6.4 (havent chacjk 630 or 620), you can install multiple instances of different versions.
Check the chapter « Multiple instances of Control-M/EM » in your Install Guide and subsequent paragraphs

Cheers

Hi JoPoCME,

Nicolas is correct.
You cannot connect a v6.4.01 GUI Client to the v7.0.00 GUI Server.
(This holds true for ALL versions of Control-M/EM).

But you can:
a). have a side-by-side installation as suggested (uninstalling v6.4.01 at a later stage when it is no longer needed), or
b). use Web-Lauch, which allows you as the Administrator to build a WebServer to distribute GUIs clients, so that end-users simply need to click on a URL in order to receive the GUI Client.
The benefit with this is that you can control the Fix Pack levels and configuration options centrally from the one place and it will be pushed out as Users connect - no need to manage multiple/distributed foot-prints.

Good luck...
Cheers, Graeme.
