calculating a jobs' average runtime using the job statistics

Post by Tikza » 06 Mar 2008 9:24

Hi,

Can you please assist.

We are calculating a jobs' average runtime using the job statistics data obtained through the EM GUI's job statistics function. Discrepancies exist, between the values shown on the EM GUI for the average duration compared to that obtained through the calculation thereof via Excel.

We have a ctmjsa "*" job wich is scheduled to run everyday by newday and keep our stats for 365 days.

e.g. average from the job log = 01:34:23
average from the excel calculation = 02:16:38

Can you explain these discrepancies for us or help us correct it ?

The statistic is stored only for last 20 runs of job.
Do you use the same number of data?
(and than it can be, that the statistic hangs the last stat and calculate the current average time from 20 last runs and from the last average data stored) .. it just my imagination ;)

In dealing with tech support over the years, I've come to the understanding that the "average" runtime is not an average. They weight the runs with higher weights being given to the latest runs. Therefore, averaging the times external to the products provides differing results from theirs.
